Aide au Leasing Social France: EV Subsidy Calculation Explained
2 min read
France's Aide au Leasing Social calculates EV support per vehicle using purchase cost percentages, specific category caps, and European manufacturing bonuses. Here is how the aid formula works.
Indicative result; the authority makes the final decision.
On this page
In France, state support under the Aide au Leasing Social is determined strictly per vehicle rather than granted as a uniform sum per driver. The exact contribution depends on purchase costs, environmental assembly standards, and powertrain manufacturing origins.
- Category 1 Base Ceiling
- The lower of EUR 6,500 and 29% of the defined acquisition cost.
- Category 2 European Ceiling
- The lower of EUR 9,000 and 29% of the defined acquisition cost.
- European Motor Bonus
- A flat 500 EUR premium added to the vehicle category amount if assembly conditions in the EEA are met.
- Vehicle Price Ceiling
- 47,000 EUR maximum purchase price limit.
The aid is the lower of two amounts
Under the regulatory mechanics established in France, the subsidy amount is never a single blanket payment. For each vehicle, the aid is the lower of a fixed ceiling and 29% of the defined acquisition cost. The defined acquisition cost is the vehicle's purchase cost including tax and excluding options, with the cost of the battery included where it is rented; the 29% is applied to that whole defined cost. The final subsidy is an asset-specific calculation rather than a generic allowance assigned to an individual.
Two categories, never both
Vehicles fall into two mutually exclusive subsidy brackets. Category 1 provides a base subsidy capped at a maximum of 6,500 EUR. This baseline tier applies when the vehicle meets standard regulatory criteria and does not qualify for Category 2.
Category 2 provides an elevated ceiling of up to 9,000 EUR. It applies instead of Category 1 when the vehicle meets regulation criteria and its specific type-variant-version appears on the official ADEME list of vehicles meeting European production criteria on the date the first rent is paid. A car falls into either Category 1 or Category 2, never both together.
The separate motor premium
On top of the primary vehicle tier, an additional European Motor Bonus provides a flat 500 EUR premium. This incentive applies when the electric motor is manufactured within the European Economic Area, specifically requiring that the rotor core, stator core, stator winding, and final motor assembly sites are all situated in the EEA.
This 500 EUR premium is added directly to the amount determined under the vehicle's primary category. Because this flat bonus is added afterward, the final cumulative aid may exceed the baseline 29% purchase cost rate.
What this page does not decide
These calculation rules reflect retained programme specifications rather than a live verification of ongoing administrative changes in France. To qualify for the scheme, the vehicle must also respect an overall purchase price cap of 47,000 EUR.
